Escaping FOMO and Living in the Moment

Valentine’s Day is upon us.

The annual opportunity to show how much we care for the people we love, usually through the medium of corny gift cards, flowers and chocolates.

But it’s also a good time to reconnect with the simpler things in life. Our fast-moving digital world constantly fuels a nagging fear of missing out (that’s FOMO in txtspk), and you could be forgiven for losing sight of the bigger picture in the maelstrom of emails, updates, comments, likes, votes and sharing that infest our daily lives.

Wild Orange HeartWe don’t fully understand the long-term implications of the over- and hyper-stimulation caused by technology, but few would disagree that they can eat away at our true sense of well-being and our capacity for true mindfulness, to simply live in the moment.

I’ve been taking a little time this Valentine’s Day to reflect on how I live my life and on the things that matter most to me.

You might like to too.

PS And, if technology really is the answer (and why shouldn’t it be?), take the delightful PoetryZoo site for a spin. Who knows what magical prose you might dream up for your most special loved one!
